The Spanish football league, LaLiga, has come hard on one its stars, Diego Costa, after finding him guilty of abusing an official.

Costa has been handed an eight-match ban for abuse on referee, Jesus Gil Manzano, during the crunch LaLiga encounter between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona at Camp Nou.

The Spain international was sent off on 28 minutes as Atletico went on to lose 2-0 to league leaders, Barcelona last weekend.

He has been given a four-match suspension for insulting Gil Manzano’s mother, and a further four-match ban for grabbing the official.

With the suspension, the enigmatic former Chelsea star will miss the rest of the LaLiga season, with the capital side having seven games left to play.

Costa has scored five goals in 31 LaLiga matches and 12goals in 44 games in all competitions this season for Atleti.
