Karate to hold National Senior Championship in February

Plans have been concluded for the first National Open Karate Senior Championship sponsored by Stratabase Nigeria Limited.

According to the Technical Director of Karate Federation of Nigeria, Sensei Dave Jegede, the Championship is scheduled for 17th to 20th February, 2022 at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Jegede told www.aclsports.com that the championship is ranked with Event Factor “6” and athletes will gather points in the various cadres.

He explained that the federation’s policy is to have regular championship in 2022 in order to build high competitiveness among athletes, sharpen their techniques and drive the standard sequences.

He said, “The Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) National Open Senior Championship sponsored by Stratabase Nigeria Limited with the KFN S/South Chairman, Engineer Chukwudi Dimkpa will be the first among the events slated for the first quarter of the year.

The Federation policy is to have regularity of Championship and build high competitiveness. This would sharpen the athletes’ techniques more and drive the standard sequences. There will also be Referees and Coaches Certification courses.”

“Athletes should be aware by now that you can only be selected to represent Nigeria from the National Ranking System. This Championship is Ranked Event Factor “6” and is higher than “3”, said Jegede.

He revealed to www.aclsports.com that the federation intends participating in this year’s WKF K1 Series “A”.
