Rangers International attacking pearl, Ibrahim Olawoyin says his team must put in their best when they face Akwa United in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game on Sunday.

Both teams failed to win on the opening match day of the 2020/21 season and will be looking to get on the mark in the game billed for the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu.

“We know this is our first game of the season here in Enugu so we just have to give all our best and make sure we get the win, we just have to win the game and get our first three points of the season,” Olawoyin told the club’s media team on Saturday.

Akwa United, coached by Kennedy Boboye claimed four points off Rangers last season, including an impressive 1-2 win over the Flying Antelopes in front of their home fans in Enugu, the only home loss suffered by Salisu Yusuf in the league.

Olawoyin says his side have put last season’s result behind then and are ready to make amends on Sunday.

“We are not under pressure because of last season’s result. We know that is football and we know that has already gone by so we have to focus on the present now. We just have to learn from the mistake we made last season, we won’t allow something like that happen again this season.

“We know that from the blast of the whistle that we just have to put all our best to make sure, even first half we get our result and seal the game in the second half,” said the enterprising winger.

Olawoyin played as a second half substitute in Wednesday’s 0-1 reversal at Rivers United but will be hoping to make his first start of the season on Sunday. He contributed five goals and three assists to Rangers’ league campaign last season.
