“I thank God alone first and foremost. Though I wasn’t anticipating it, I’m thrilled to have made the African Championship final roster. I was really startled when the list was called out by the head coach, and I return all praise to God,” said the former Rima Striker player.

He said, “The call-up boosts my confidence and is another phase of work itself because it won’t be an easy one.

“With God’s blessing, I will give it everything that I have during the Nation’s Cup for the purpose to be given the opportunity to shine in my first senior international tournament.

“I’m glad I get the chance to showcase my qualities as I’ve always stated that I want to play for my country. “I want to give it my all, demonstrate my abilities, add value to the team, and strengthen it.”

Shagari said, ““We have confidence we can go far in this competition, but we have to prove it and assure the fans that we can prove ourselves. They can be sure we will make the nation proud.

“Preparation has been good; we are in camp for close to a month preparing for the Nations Cup. Everyone is highly motivated and wants to make Nigeria proud”.

John Shagari was adjudged the Best Left Back at the 2023 Ardova Premier Handball League in Lagos,

It will be recalled that the President of Handball Federation of Nigeria, Sam Ocheho told www.aclsports.com that one of the areas the Federation has been able to strengthen is the Left Wing Position with John Shagari.
