The first phase of the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League which had suffered several postponements will finally kickoff on Saturday, July 13 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State.

The first phase was shifted due to Zone 3 Africa Club Championships in Lagos and All Africa Games Qualifiers in Abidjan.

The Chairman of the League Management Committee, Professor Olatunde Morakinyo said 8 male teams and 6 female teams will participate in this year’s league.

The male teams include: Nigeria Customs, NSCDC, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Immigrations, Kano Pillars, Plateau Rocks, UCEM (Enugu) and Famous Spikers while the female teams will involve Nigeria Customs, NSCDC, Nigeria Immigrations, COAS Spikers, Benue Queens and Kada Queens.

Morakinyo said the first phase of the league will serve as a preparatory competition for the national team players.

“The Premier League in Asaba will be of great advantage to some of the players who will represent Nigeria at next month’s All Africa Games in Morocco.

“The competition will be high because the teams are coming with young and old players who want to cement their place in the respective National teams.

He urged registered players to abstain from banned substances as players caught will be expelled from every volleyball tournament in the country.
