Nigeria Super Eagles midfielder, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro graced the opening ceremony of the 76th edition of the Viareggio Cup, one of world football’s most prestigious youth tournaments, on Monday, www.aclsports.com reports.

The opening ceremony took place at the Pini-Bresciani Stadium in Viareggio, just before the tournament’s opening match between Genoa and Mavlon. Akinsanmiro was there to read the official athlete’s oath, and that encounter finished 1-1 between the defending champions and the Nigerian side.

The competition schedule includes the group stage from March 9–15, the Round of 16 on March 17, quarter-finals on March 19, and the final on March 23, 2026. Apart from Mavlon, other Nigerian teams like Ojodu City and One Touch FC are also participating.

Akinsanmiro, 21, is a product of Beyond Limits Football Academy and was part of Alex Transfiguration’s team at the competition back in 2022. He was one of the standout performers in the tournament when they lost in the final.

The exciting midfielder then sealed a move to Serie A giants Inter Milan, but he is currently on loan at Pisa. It will be recalled that he was also part of  Nigeria’s squad at the last AFCON in Morocco.
