Dr Olukoya Basketball Championship set for grand finale

The grand finale of the 3rd Dr & Dr (Mrs) DK Olukoya Women’s Basketball Championship will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Surulere, Lagos, www.aclsports.com reports.

The annual event, sponsored by General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) Dr Daniel Olukoya is part of activities lined up to celebrate Dr Olukoya and his wife, Dr Shade Olukoya’s birthdays as they both share same dates: July 15.

Saturday’s final will be a battle between two MFM teams; MFM Women’s Basketball Clubs from Bayelsa and Lagos states. En route to the final, MFM Bayelsa Youth Church team recorded a 44-42 points win over Sunshine Angels of Akure in Thursday’s first semi-final game.

MFM Bayelsa will now face MFM Lagos in Saturday’s final after the Lagosians clawed their ways back from the jaws of defeat to claim a 47-46 points win over Tap Queens of Ogun state in a closely fought second semi-final clash decided at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere.

The grand finale of the six days event is expected to be graced by top dignitaries including the wife of the Executive Governor of Lagos state Babajide Sanwoolu, Dr Ibijoke Sanwoolu as well as other eminent personalities and captains of industries.

The final day will commence with the losers’ final between Sunshine Angels of Akure and Tap Queens of Abeokuta at 11am while the final match will follow after the third place classification game.

Over two million Nairas (N2m) are available to be shared by the top three teams at the end of the competition alongside trophies, medals and other individual awards to deserving recipients.

As always, this year’s event which started on July 10 had some of the best women’s basketball teams from across Nigeria in attendance.
