Coach Christopher Danjuma is hoping to claim gold medal but says it is not their only objective for the competition. “Our greatest target of coming here is not gold but continuity. We want our players to graduate from this level to the senior team,”.

Nigeria women U20 football team have booked a place in the final of the ongoing African Games in Morocco after defeating Algeria 3-0 on Monday.

The Falconets will lock horns with familiar foes Cameroon for the ultimate on Thursday. Nigeria, who have won the competition twice, will be playing in the final for the first time since 2007.

“Five players from the previous team made it to the senior category and that is what we are expecting or even more,” he said.

Nigeria have made three outings so far, against South Africa 3-1, Cameroon 1-1 and Algeria 3-0, but Cameroon’s clash was the toughest according to the coach.

“Cameroon game has been the most physically demanding,” he said.

Interestingly, both teams who met in the group stage earlier on will face off against each other in the final at the Stade Boubker Ammar.  Danjuma is confident but cautious.

“I respect every team but I came out here to be the best.”
