Chief of the Defence Staff of Nigeria (CDS), General Christopher Musa (OFR) told www.aclsports.com that the Armed Forces will participate in every National Sporting Championships.
The Chief of Defence Staff made the pledge following the performance of the Armed Force of Nigeria at the just concluded 36th World Military Wrestling Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan.
2022 Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Hannah Reuben won gold medal in the women’s 68kg while Lance Corporal Ojolaide Esther won silver medal in the women’s 72kg event.
An elated General Musa said that the wrestlers made the Armed Forces proud with their explosive performances.
He said, “The Nigeria wrestlers were fantastic at the World Military Wrestling Championship. It shows that sports in the Armed Forces are everywhere and have gone international. The Armed Forces will continue to participate in every competition to ensure that Nigerians are proud of their country and this will synergy our efforts together.
General Musa revealed that plans are underway to organise a National Wrestling Championship in 2024.
He said, “I am in talks with the President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali and the Armed Forces will bankroll a National Wrestling Championship in 2024”.
