Andrew Sunday has expressed delight over his national team call up for the beach volleyball camping exercise in Kaduna ahead of the Olympic qualifier.

The CAVB Continental Cup and 2nd Round Phase men’s beach volleyball Olympic Qualifier is scheduled to hold from 19th to 23rd March, 2020 in Mozambique

Sunday told www.aclsports.com that he feels honoured to be invited among thousands of players scattered across the country.

He revealed that teamwork with Godwin Shekarau made them win the President Beach Volleyball Cup held in Kaduna last month.

The Bauchi based player said, “I feel very happy being invited among the eight players chosen to prepare for the second round of the Olympic qualifier in Mozambique.

“The secret behind Team Sazahm (consisting of myself and Godwin Shekarau) can be attributed to togetherness, teamwork, fighting spirit and understanding. Godwin Shekarau makes my job very easy on the court”.

Sunday expressed optimism that Nigeria can scale through the second round of the Olympic qualifiers.

He said, “By virtue of players invited to camp as well as coaches I have a strong belief that we are good to go. We will take one step at a time and repeat what the team did at the first phase. I have a strong conviction that we can scale through the second phase and eventually shock Africa by qualifying for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The eight men beach volleyball players invited to camp in Kaduna are; Andrew Sunday (Team Sazahm), Godwin Shekarau (Team Sazahm), Obayomi Ogunshina (Nigeria Police Force), Emenike Ezike(Team Rivers), Peter Ibrahim (Team Kada), Abdulrasheed Ahmed (Team Gallant) and Babalola Hussain (Team Plateau)

The coaches are: Kayode Ajilore to be assisted by John Iwerima

The players and officials are expected to resume camp on Tuesday, 10th March, 2020 at the Ahmadu Bello stadium, Kaduna state.

Team Nigeria is drawn alongside host Mozambique, Tunisia, Zambia and Congo Brazzaville in group A of the Olympic qualifiers.
