Head coach of the Super Falcons of Nigeria Thomas Dennerby has reiterated that the team needs to spend time together to keep their position at the top in women’s football on the continent.

Speaking after leading his team to a 9th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) title in Ghana on Sunday evening “We want to keep being the best team on the continent but you have to understand that all other teams are working very hard to come closer to us.

“If we want to stay in the number one position we need to work hard, we need to have a lot of camps and come together on a regular basis to prepare the team very well.

He also congratulated Banyana Banyana coach, Desiree Ellis who led South Africa to her first ever World Cup qualification. “Congratulations to coach Desiree Ellis. You’ve had a really good tournament so you can be proud of your team.”

Afterwards he assessed the Super Falcons performance in the final against South Africa rating it as one of the best.

“Today was probably the best passing game we had in the tournament, our defence again was solid and we only let one goal in throughout the tournament and that was against South Africa.”

Adding that the team had chances to close the game in the later stages but didn’t as it eventually went down to penalties to decide the 2018 AWCON winner.
