The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have appointed young Cameroonian referee Abdou Abdel Mefire as the arbiter for the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s 2025 AFCON round of 16 game against Mozambique on Monday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Mefire, who officiated the group stage game between Mali and Morocco earlier, will be assisted by compatriots Elvis Guy Nguegoue (Assistant Referee 1) and Carine Fomo (Assistant Referee 2), while Gabon’s Tanguy Mebiane will serve as the fourth official.
In the VAR room, Haythem Guirat will serve as the head and will be assisted by compatriot Khalili Hassani and Libya’s Abdulrazg Ahmed, while Lidya Abebe from Ethiopia is the referee assessor.
The 29-year-old Mefire is the youngest referee at this 35th edition of the AFCON in Morocco. He already held this title during the previous CHAN 2024, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, where he officiated the final played at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, Morocco, and Madagascar.
Monday’s game will kick off at 8pm local time in Fes (same time in Nigeria) at the 45,000-capacity Fes Stadium.
