Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, admits his side needs to do better in the final quarter of matches, but says the win over the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on Saturday night is well deserved, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria raced to a three-goal lead courtesy of goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ademola Lookman. However, a late double from Montassar Talbi and Ali Elabdi threatened the win, but the Super Eagles held on for a win and a place in the knockout stages.
“During this game, we were good for 75 minutes,” said Chelle in the post-match conference monitored by www.aclsports.com.
“Because we scored three goals, but maybe we had a loss of concentration on the corner kick. After that, they tried to make it a high-pressure on us and there is a penalty kick. But you can say what you want, but the reality is, we deserved this victory. At halftime, we had 70% of the ball possession, and until 75 minutes, we were the best team on the pitch.
Chelle was happy with the performance of his players, but admits they have to improve in the final quarter of matches going forward.
“I am very proud and happy for my players. However, we have to improve in the last 15 minutes. We can not put a high-pressure on the pitch for 90 minutes, it is impossible.
“My dream is to have my team do that, but it is impossible. 75 minutes is good, but we have to win and improve in the last 15 minutes of matches,” the Franco-Malian concluded.
Nigeria will continue preparations in training on Sunday for their final group match against the Cranes of Uganda on Tuesday in Fes.
