Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, and captain Wilfred Ndidi spoke about the readiness of the side ahead of their AFCON 2025 group C clash with Tunisia on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Speaking ahead of the game, Eric Chelle discussed the effort the team has made in training ahead of the big clash on Saturday.
“For this game, we had a training session to recover, and we tried to put more intensity in the training session. Tunisia is a great team, and they are playing very well. Let’s go for this game,” Chelle said in a pre-match press conference on Friday.
On some of the errors against Tunisia, Chelle said his side has worked on it and will continue to work before the game.
“We analyzed the game, and we did some things in the game, bad and good. But the goal was bad for us. The reality was that we scored immediately after the goal, and that was a good reaction. We will work on it, and if there is no mistake, there is no goal, but my players are very ready for this game.
Meanwhile, the Franco-Malian tactician also went ahead to speak on his project with the Super Eagles after nearly a year in charge, saying, “This is not the best time to talk about that. We have a game tomorrow against Tunisia. If I talk about my game project now, I can give something away to the opposition. The most important thing is that the players are focused on the project.”
Ndidi: We are focused on the tournament
In his own thoughts, Super Eagles skipper Wilfred Ndidi spoke about the group’s focus on the tournament, and not on the comments on social media or anywhere.
“There will always be negative comments on social media. It is not affecting the group or anyone. We are here to play football, and we know what we want to achieve. Our main focus is the tournament and achieving great results in this tournament.”
In response to our Chief Football Writer’s question on facing the Carthage Eagles for the first time since the loss to them in Garoua back in 2021, Ndidi responded, ”It was a painful loss in 2021. It gives us more confidence when we talk about it. We don’t want to think about what happened; we just want to face this one.”
”Definitely, it is a new team, good players, and a good group. We spoke highly of it because it is not going to happen twice, hopefully,” Ndidi concluded.
Nigeria will face the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in their second group game in Fes on Saturday. The game will kick off by 9pm (Nigerian time).
