The 26 year-old centre back who has been subject of transfer speculation was reportedly being monitored by Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.

However, it is the club from Merseyside who have acted quickly, with the defender set to join the reds on January 1 when the transfer window re-opens.
