Mainz 05 and Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun is very happy that striker Anthony Ujah is back in the Bundesliga. Balogun is especially happy because Ujah is returning to Mainz 05.

“Now I have someone I will see everyday who will help me improve my pidgin english” says one half the Super Eagles Oyibo Wall.

Ujah and Balogun apparently had a good connection in the Super Eagles. “When I made my return to the National team in 2015 I used to travel to Nigeria with Tony (Ujah) and we also used to room together” Balogun said in a chat with www.aclsports.com after the striker’s signing was confirmed.

“He helped me settle into the team and atmosphere of the National Team camp back then, so we became close”.

It was always a desire of Ujah’s to return to Europe? “we stayed in touch even though he was not getting called up to the National Team” Balogun says. “Europe is where most want to play and so it has not surprised me he has returned”.

Mainz 05 are too close to the relegation zone in the Bundesliga for comfort. So Balogun and all connected with the club will hope that Ujah hits the ground running in terms of goals when the league resumes in January after the winter break.
