Three Nigeria Army Judokas set for Dakar Open

Nigeria Army has produced a three man Judo team that will represent the country at the Dakar Open in Senegal scheduled for November 18th to 19th, 2017.

The team led by General U.O Olatoye have highest Nigeria ranked Judoka, Private Winnie Gofit (-70kg) in the female category, while Ogah Adamu (-81KG), Michael Christopher (-73kg) in the male category.

Gofit ranked World Number 74th in the Women -70Kg Weight Category represented Nigeria at the 2017 World Championships held at Budapest, Hungary last August.

Gofit said her participation at the African championships would further boost her chances of garnering points ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The officer told aclsports.com that she’ll use the experience gathered at the World championships to defeat her African opponents.

“The African championships is going to be tough but I’ve been to the World championships and I’ll use my experience. I won the African Wrestling Championship and I hope winning that of Judo”, she said.

Ogah Adamu on his part thanked the Nigeria Army for making sure he made his debut at the African championships.

“It’s a dream come true. I’ve been training for a long time and I’ll put in my very best at the Dakar Open”, he said.
