Javelin: Nwanaga sets record in America East Championship

Kelechi Nwanaga broke the America East Championship, School and Facility Records with just two throws in the Javelin event.

Nwanaga who represents University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) threw 53.09 meters with seven strides which is a short approach.

Nwanaga back home in Nigeria has a National Record of 58.15 meters.

The 2015 All Africa Games champion said her aim is to hit 65 meters before the end of the 2018 season.

“I’m believing to hit 65 meters mark before the end of the season. This is achievable because I threw 53 meters which is almost a standing throw”, she told aclsports.com.

“It’s been cold here, but the weather is getting better and trying to adapt to the weather”, Nwanaga noted.

She said, “Thank you Jesus and to all my friends and UMBC athletes I thank you all for your support and to my coach thanks for being there for me. Don’t lose hope better days ahead”.

Nwanaga also had her Personal Best (PB) in the Shot put event with a throw of 12.35 meters
