Commonwealth silver medallist, Bode Abiodun continued his impressive run at the men’s singles table tennis event with a 4-0 win over Nooa Takooa of Kiribati.

Abiodun showed his superiority over Takooa (11-3, 11-1, 11-4, 11-7) to progress to the next round.

Nigeria’s Blessing Ibrahim finished fifth out of 11 competitors in the women’s triple jump final on Tuesday at the XXI Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Ibrahim had a jump of 13.48 metres to place 5th while winner of the triple jump, Jamaica’s Kimberly Williams finished with a personal best of 14.64m and Shanieka Ricketts placed second with a season’s best of 14.52m. Thea Lafond from Dominica won the bronze medal after jumping 13.92 metres.

National hammer champion, Queen Obisesan settled for a fifth place finish following her 63.84m throw. New Zealand Julia Ratclife won the gold medal (69.94m) while Australian duo of Alexandra Hulley (68.20m) and Lara Nielsen (65.03m) won silver and bronze respectively.

Obisesan’s throw of 63.84 was below her personal best of 65.01m recorded at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Golden League in January.
