Technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Sunday Adeleye has revealed why the AFN decided to rescind their earlier decision on Seye Ogunlewe.

Ogunlewe’s name was omitted from the official list released in February and reported here https://aclsports.com/9860-2/  But has now been given a late invite to Gold Coast as monitored on his twitter handle @seyeogunlewe.

Speaking to ACLSports from their training camp in Australia on Tuesday, Adeleye explained why the three-time national champion has been included to the team.

“We had another Golden League in Abuja last month, Seye thought it wise to come for the event. He ran a 10.23 seconds which is fast enough to put him on the team because the time for the national trials is 10.30.”

“It’s about performance and we had no choice but to consider him. It’s not a free ride, we have to do things right. Nobody is bigger than Nigeria and the AFN,” he said

Adeleye added that Ogunlewe will be competing in the 100m and relay events.

“Seye will be competing in the 100m and 4x100m events. It depends on what happens in training he might and might not make the relay team you know how baton exchange can be it is an important part of the relay. But so far he has been practicing and doing well.”
