C/Wealth Games: Nigeria Wrestlers are well prepared

The President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali said the national teams are well prepared for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

In an interview with aclsports.com, Igali said the athletes are camped in two centers; Port Harcourt and Yenegoa for the games. The Sydney 2000 Olympics champion said with reports filtering from both camps, the team have what it takes to perform well.

“The athletes have been in camp for over a month now for the Commonwealth Games and they’ve been preparing in two centres in Port Harcourt and Yenegoa and so far from the reports I get and my personal confirmation the training is going well”.

“The aim of been in camp is to prepare well and ultimately to perform well for the country and our expectation is that the athletes will perform well in the gold coast”, he told aclsports.com.

The Bayelsa lawmaker disclosed that after the Commonwealth Games in Australia, the team plans attending the beat the street tournament in US.

He said an option of three weight class was given to the federation.

“We beat the street tournament which is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world really. It’s strictly by invitation and this year, the female team was invited to the tournament. They are asking for three weight classes; 55kg, 57kg and 59kilog and after the commonwealth games we’ll be able to make a determination as to who will represent Nigeria”, Igali noted.
