The Nigeria U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, defeated Black Princesses of Ghana 3-0 to clinch the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Girls’ Cup title at the Omnisport Stadium in Adjohoun, Benin Republic, on Tuesday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Goals from Janet Akekoromowei, Alaba Olabiyi, and Ramotalahi Kareem secured a 3–0 victory for coach Moses Aduku’s side, handing the Falconets the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 title with a game to spare. It was sweet revenge for Nigeria, who lost 3–1 on penalties to Ghana after a 1–1 draw in the inaugural 2023 edition.
Ghana started brightly, but Nigeria’s goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi, who replaced Christiana Uzoma for this game, made an early save in the 3rd minute to deny Linda Owusu Ansah. Two minutes later, Mary Amponsah had a chance to put Ghana in front but fired wide.
Nigeria soon took control and opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Akekoromowei’s well-taken free-kick. The Falconets doubled their advantage in the 24th minute when Olabiyi finished calmly at the near post after Precious Oscar’s header across goal, making it 2–0 against Ghana at half-time.
After the restart, Ghana’s Sarah Nyarko, who scored against Nigeria in the first leg, missed a chance to reduce the deficit in the 47th minute, shooting wide. The Falconets sealed the win in the 61st minute when Kareem converted from close range after a fine assist from Akekoromowei.
Mary Aderemi was named Woman of the Match for her influential performance in midfield.
Already crowned champions, the Falconets will round off their campaign against hosts Benin Republic on 12 November, in this year’s newly introduced home-and-away round-robin format.
