Chioma Okafor scored in the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies’ 2-0 win over Rhode Island on Friday, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Nigeria forward opened the scoring in the 16th minute, connecting on a precise cross from Lexi Taylor for her second goal of the season.

UConn had multiple chances in the first half. Taylor Jenkins nearly got the second from an Alayna Taylor corner, and Okafor herself could’ve had a brace but her shot went just wide.

Abbey Merchant doubled the Huskies’ lead early in the second half, expertly finishing a perfectly timed pass from Se-Hanna Mars for UConn’s first multi-goal game of the season.

Ava Yamas was unbeatable in goal, racking up a career-high five saves and keeping the Huskies firmly in control.

UConn returns home to face Maine on Sunday, September 14, and Chioma Okafor will be eager to make an impact once again.
