Defending Champions Rivers Angels have been drawn against Delta Queens in their first game at the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) end of the season Super Four Tournament to be staged in Benin City next month.

Coached by former Nigeria Senior national team head coach Edwin Okon, Rivers Angels won last year’s edition of the Super Four tournament after beating fierce rivals Bayelsa Queens in their last game of the round robin tournament.

In a modestly colourful draws ceremony held at the Conference Room of Protea Hotel, Isaac John, Lagos, two teams that also participated at last year’s edition Nasarawa Amazons and Bayelsa Queens were drawn to play the tournament’s opening match at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on September 11 before Rivers Angels and Delta Queens bring Match Day One to a close.

In Match Day Two, Nasarawa Amazons will take on Group A winners Bayelsa Queens while Rivers Angels will slug it out with Delta Queens in the day’s other game.

Match Day three will see teams from the same league group battling against each other. Bayelsa Queens will face Rivers Angels in a repeat of their Group A clash while Nasarawa Amazons will battle Delta Queens.

The top two teams at the end of the round robin phase will face in the final billed for September 16 at the same venue. The winner of the Super Four tournament will go home with a #3m prize money while the first runner-up will take home #2m.

The draws ceremony had in attendance football personalities including the Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick while NWPL Chairperson and ace journalist Aisha Falode was the chief host.

The new board of the NWPL used the occasion to review the league stage of this year’s NWPL and thanked the Edo State government for accepting to host the season-ending tournament in Benin City, the state capital.
