NWFL Super 6: Flawless Bayelsa Queens emerge champions

Bayelsa Queens emerge 2021/2022 NWFL Super 6 champions after a flawless tournament which saw them edge Nasarawa Amazons 2-1 on Sunday, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State.

Gift Monday was once again the standout performer as her first half brace ensured that the four-time champions maintained a 100% win record to lift the NWFL trophy alongside a cash prize of N5m.

Not only were Bayelsa Queens crowned champions, Moses Aduku and his girls also swept all the individual honours at the end of the tournament. Having scored 12 goals in five games, FC Robo Queens loanee, Monday won the NWFL Super 6 golden boot and Most Valuable Player of the tournament awards.

Also, the Golden glove award went to Bayelsa Queens’ Cameroonian goalkeeper, Gabrielle Ange Bawou.

Two-time champions and first runner-up, Nasarawa Amazons were rewarded with N3m; while immediate past champions, Rivers Angels who emerged second runners-up following a disappointing start to the tournament took home N2m.

In addition to that, all the six participating teams in the Tulcan Energy-sponsored NWFL Super 6 went home with N1m each courtesy of the league regulating body.

By virtue of this win, Bayelsa Queens will represent Nigeria at the WAFU Zone B play-off for the second CAF Women’s Champions League.
