
The University of Ibadan (UI) won gold, and the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) claimed both gold and silver in the Scrabble Singles competition at the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Scrabble Singles event concluded after 10 rounds. In the women’s category, the University of Ibadan (UI) took gold, the University of Benin (UNIBEN) earned silver, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU) claimed bronze. In the men’s category, the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) won both gold and silver, while Rivers State University (RSU) took bronze.
Football action also got underway as the men’s and women’s competitions kicked off across the University of Jos campuses. Fans were treated to thrilling encounters and high-scoring matches on opening day, while a few fixtures ended in walkovers following the failure of some universities to field teams.

In handball, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) edged hosts University of Jos (UNIJOS) 19–18 in the men’s group stage, while Bayero University, Kano (BUK) drew 6–6 with University of Jos (UNIJOS) in the women’s category.
Basketball also tipped off in style, with the University of Jos (UNIJOS) overpowering Benue State University (BSU) 81–59 in the men’s game, witnessed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, at the Indoor Sports Hall of the university.
There was also a wrestling demonstration, adding excitement and variety to the day’s sports activities.
With competition intensifying across sports, more games and results are expected in the coming days as teams continue their chase for medals and glory at the University of Jos.
