NSF: Gov Amosun sets up panel on stranded Ogun athletes

Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on Monday night facilitated the departure of Team Ogun contingent from Abuja after the end of the 19th National Sports Festival, www.aclsports.com gathered.

A top government official said Governor Amosun was shocked to read the state of Ogun athletes were thrown out of the hostels as well as stranded at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after the games.

He said the governor immediate demanded for a panel raised to investigate the matter.

He said, “Governor Amosun was shocked to read the disturbing news that the state athletes and officials were thrown out of their hotel rooms and seen loitering the streets of Abuja because the bus meant to convey the contingent back to Abeokuta developed serious fault and was withdrawn on Saturday.

“The governor regrets this unfortunate incident, stressing that his government values every Egba youth that is meaningfully contributing his/her quota to promoting and uplifting the image of the state. A panel will be set up to investigate the shoddy treatment of the contingents and anuone found guilty will be sanctioned appropriately”.

He disclosed that athletes who won medals will be rewarded by his administration.

“Governor Amosun is a man who rewards excellence and has been in contact with team Ogun from the first day of the festival to the very last day.

“As we speak, the governor has acted swiftly as he has directed that the athletes and officials be accorded the best possible treatment deserving of their heroic performance at the games where team Ogun won a total of 64 medals, comprising of 8 gold, 15 Silver and 41 Bronze medals.

An official statement on a proposed state banquet in a yet to be decided date and venue will be made public in due cause”, the source said.

    They eventually moved last night but are still on the road as the bus kept breaking down on the road, since Amosun became the gov of Ogun State, has je ever awarded medals honourably??? ? Apart from the 50k for gold, 30k for silver and 10k for bronze medal instant award, nothing else!!! Where other states award 1m for a gold medal….. It’s sad!!!
