Rivers United head coach Stanley Eguma has hailed the contributions of new signing Sunday Adetunji after his goal propelled the team to a 2-0 win over Dakkada FC on Sunday.

Adetunji scored the game’s curtain raiser for United when he expertly finished Fortune Omoniwari’s chest down in the 20th minute before Paul Acquah headed home a second in the 32nd minute.

Sunday’s win was United’s tenth home win in the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League season, making the Pride of Rivers the only team with 100% home record in the league this term.

Eguma hailed the former Enyimba striker in a chat after the game. “Sunday Adetunji is proving to be a prolific scorer,” began the former Enyimba striker to www.aclsports.com

“He scored against Enyimba and another one today making two goals for him in two matches and that’s a good record for a striker of his calibre. “I know he’s a very good striker, that’s why I signed him at the end of the first round to beef up the team,” he added.

Adetunji has now made one goal contribution in each of his three games for Rivers United so far. He had an assist against Dakkada in Uyo on his debut in United’s 2-4 loss and followed it up with back to back goals at home.

United are now fourth on the league table, just two points behind leaders Akwa United and Eguma believes Adetunji can help them even more in the second half.

“I hope that he (Adetunji) will continue in this manner and even do better. I think he’s going to change the fortunes of the club and put us in a better position,” added Eguma.

Rivers United will next travel to Enugu for a date with Rangers International on Sunday.
