South Eastern sides Abia Warriors and FC Ifeanyiubah (FCIU) on Thursday recorded their first losses of the 2019/20 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season when they went down at Adamawa United and Akwa Starlets respectively.

Both sides were unbeaten after three league games but surrendered their aura of invincibility in their match day four games decided on Thursday.

Playing at their adopted home ground in Gombe, ten-man Adamawa United edged Abia Warriors 1-0 courtesy of Adam Yakubu’s 11th minute strike off a brilliant Felix Kenan pass.

Although Adamawa United were reduced to ten men after the hour mark following the dismissal of Aminu Mbai, the Jacob Vandi coached side held on for their first win of the season and Warriors’ first loss.

At the Nest of Champions in Uyo, privately owned side FC Ifeanyiubah went down by a similar 0-1 scoreline to hosts Akwa Starlets who like Adamawa also recorded their first win of the season.

Isaac George scored the game’s only goal in the 65th minute to earn the Caleb Esu led side their first ever win in Nigeria’s top flight league. It was George’s second goal of the season after his first secured a 1-1 opening day draw for his side at Delta Force.

Starlets who have five points from three matches will travel to Enugu for a date with Rangers on Sunday while FC Ifeanyiubah will entertain Lobi Stars of Makurdi in Nnewi.
