My mother encourages me to fight Karate says Tunimi

Team Delta champion, Sonia Tunimi told www.aclsports.com that her mother made her fall in love with the sport, Karate.

Tunimi won gold in the Kata U12 White-Orange and Kumite +30kg at the Zainab Saleh Female International Championships in Lagos.

The 11 years old fighter said she began Karate in 2018 defeating all her opponents at in-house tournaments organised by the Delta State Karate Association.

She said, “My mother, Zipamoh Favor was a former National Champion. She won gold for Delta State at the 2009 National Sports Festival in Kaduna.

“I feel my mother wants me to follow her footsteps and become greater than her. I want to win a gold medal at an African Championship for her”.

She further said, “I am dedicating this medal to my mother, coach, and my classmates at school. I promise to be a good ambassador of Delta State”.

Sonia Tunimi is a Primary four student of Zappa Primary School in Asaba, Delta State.
