The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD) have approved the commencement of the 2020 Prudent Energy Handball League.

The 2020 Prudent Energy Handball League is scheduled for 23th October to 6th November, 2020 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

In a memo signed by the Permanent Secretary FMYSD, Gabriel Aduda advised the federation to ensure a strict compliance to the protocol defined by the Handball Federation of Nigeria.

The statement read, “With reference to your letter No: NSC/FEAD/FED/HFN/NHPL/2020/09 of September 29, 2020 seeking the approval to host the 2020 Prudent Energy Handball League in the indoor sports hall, Package B of the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja and the subsequent inspection of the ministry’s COVID-19 central coordinating and monitoring committee, I wish to convey to you the approval of the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development for your federation to organise the event. This approval is given in recognition of the COVID-19 sports protocol you have put in place in readiness for the 2020 edition of the Prudent Energy Handball League”.

“However, you are to ensure a strict compliance to the protocol you have already defined for the event and work assiduously with the ministry’s COVID-19 implementation committee for a successful handball league”, it read.

The Prudent Energy Handball Premier League 2020 will only be in a single phase this year unlike other years when it was in phases and it will be on consolidated basis as a result of the remaining timeline for handball in the end of the year.

Therefore all the teams will play round-robin games amongst themselves and the winners will emerge as the 2020 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League Champions in the men and women category respectively.

The HFN decided to extend the number of days from 12 to 14 days as rest period.
