FIBA U16 Africa C’Ships: Junior Tigers bounce back

Nigeria U16 Basketball Team, Junior Tigers bounced back from their opening loss to beat host Cape Verde 64-39 the ongoing FIBA U16 Africa Championship at the Pavilhao Desportivo Vava Duarte on Sunday.

Reuben Chinyelu continued from where he left off 24 hours earlier with another double-double. Chinyelu scored a game high 20 points and 21 rebounds with four blocks to go with it in 36 minutes.

Othuke James added 12 points and 19 rebound double-double with three blocks.

Cape Verde had two players on double digits, Silva Hugo and Martin’s Geovani combined for 20 points (10 points each) while Hugo made it a double-double with 10 boards.

The host won the first quarter 13-11 but could only score 7 points against 20 points scored by Nigeria in the second quarter. Cape Verde failed to keep up with the momentum from then on.

In other games played in Group A, 3-time champions Egypt recorded back to back wins after beating Angola 86-61 on Sunday.

Nigeria will take a rest on Monday and then play their third game of the competition against Angola on Tuesday.
