Nigeria international, Semi Ajayi netted an own goal as Rotherham United, were thrashed 7-0 by Manchester City in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup at the Etihad stadium.

Ajayi and his championship side endured a torrid time at the Etihad, with goals from Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden putting City 2-0 up inside 35minutes.

Things went from bad to worse when the Nigerian defender made it 3-0 just before the break with an unfortunate own goal after Marek Rodak initially saved a dangerous cross from Riyad Mahrez.

After the break, Ajayi and his team mates were completely blown apart, as Pep Guardiola’s expensively assembled side added more goals with Gabriel Jesus, Mahrez, Nicolas Otamendi and Leroy Sane all grabbing a goal apiece.

With that result, City, who take on Burton Albion in the Semifinal of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, have now won three games in row and are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

For Ajayi’s Rotherham, attention shifts to their relegation battle in the Sky Bet championship, where they face Ipswich Town next.
