The Sky Blue Stars were too much to handle for the visitors as goals from Leonard Ngenge, Ebuka Anthony, Adama Goita, and Samson Olasupo earned them a comfortable win at the MKO Sports Arena in Abeokuta.

Daniel Ogunmodede’s side were expected to dominate the game, and they did just that in the opening exchanges. Joseph Abah blasted an effort over the bar before debutant Leonard Ngenge pounced on a loose ball in the area to put Remo Stars ahead in the 12th minute.

In first-half stoppage time, the home side doubled their lead from a setpiece routine. Abubakar Ibrahim disguised a freekick to put the ball into the path of Chilekwu Chigozie who then rolled it across the face of goal for a simple finish from Ebuka Anthony.

From that moment on, there was no way back for the visitors who struggled to test Remo Stars goalkeeper Adeniyi Obassa.

After the interval, Remo Stars continued to dominate and dictate proceedings. The impressive Oshidero Sodiq and Joseph Abah were withdrawn for Haruna Hadi and Adama Goita ten minutes into the second half.

Nearly 15 minutes later, a beautiful combination play ended with Goita heading into the back of the net from Abubakar Ibrahim’s teasing cross for Remo Stars’ third goal.

Another substitute, Samson Olasupo, who had earlier replaced Samuel Anakwe, latched onto a beautiful pass from Haruna Hadi to finish for the game’s fourth goal. It was the icing on the cake, as the NPFL champions claimed a commanding lead ahead of the second leg next Friday.

US Zilimadjou and Remo Stars will return to the same venue in Abeokuta for the second leg of the encounter. The winner on aggregate will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the final qualifying round.
