All plans have been concluded to host the 2024 BetKing Wheelchair League in Kano State. According to Seyi Johnson, president of Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation; the Savannah Conference is scheduled for 13th to 16th April, 2024 at the indoor Sports Hall of Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano city.

Johnson revealed that the Savannah Conference consists of North East, North West and North Central geo-political zones adding that two outstanding teams will qualify to the next stage.

He said winners of the league will go home with cash prizes in order to prepare for the proposed 2024 IWBF Africa Wheelchair Basketball Championship.

The sports administrator said, “This is an opportunity for players in the North to display their talents and show what they love doing. The North has a large number of followers who are in love with wheelchair basketball and I am optimistic teams will be given opportunities to fight for the available slots.

“The current board remains committed to the development of wheelchair basketball in the country. The BetKing Championship will serve as a means of revitalising wheelchair basketball in the country.

“Last year, the Federation organised a 3×3 championship which was attended by teams majorly from the South due to proximity. This time, we are taking the League to the doorstep of every region to give them a sense of belonging”.

Johnson noted that officials who attended the National Technical Workshop in Ilorin will handle the officiating of the league.

He revealed that team and players’ registration must be completed on or before 8th April, 2024.
