Ahmad Ghali scored the winner – his second goal in as many games – as Nigeria defeated South Africa 2-1 in their second game of the Football Event at the 12th African Games in Morocco.

Ghali who scored the team’s only goal in their opening draw against Burkina Faso continued his impressive showing by heading home the winner 13 minutes from time in Rabat.

Ghali, who plays for Lagos based side MFM FC was controversially omitted from the U20 squad to the last FIFA Championship in Poland but has now grabbed his opportunity in this tournament with both hands.

Nigeria went in front against the South Africans in the 28th minute courtesy of speed star Collins Sor but the West Africans were pegged back early in the second half by their opponents.

Team coach Paul Aigbogun introduced attacking duo Success Makanjuola and Chinonso Emeka soon afterwards. The team turned on the heat against the South Africans and Ghali was on hand to head home captain of the team, Abubakar Babawo’s cross.

Nigeria are on top of Group A with four points after two matches. Hosts Morocco will face Burkina Faso later on Tuesday.
