News in from the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is that Egypt has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Cameroon who were originally slated to host the continental showpiece were stripped of the rights in November, 2018 due to slow preparations. Hence, giving room for Egypt and South Africa to submit a bid.

After hours of meeting and voting between members of the CAF Executive Committee in Dakar, Senegal; the North Africans were announced as the hosts of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations beating South Africa to it.

Egypt will host the tournament for a fifth time with six months to prepare for the expanded 24-team finals which kicks off on the 7th of June.
